Chapter 4

      Chapter 4 is about building a collaborative culture. This chapter talks about collaboration and how it can be difficult for some. The reason for this is that some people are so used to doing things a certain way and not willing to follow a different way. They can be so set in their own beliefs. I believe that it is important to be able to connect and collaborate with others. In my future career as a Speech Pathologist, I would love to be able to connect and collaborate ideas with others. I would like to know if there is a better way to use certain resources and tools that will benefit me in my career. Creating connected learning is based on culture and beliefs. When it comes to culture, it is an organizations or groups way of doing things can be based on values, norms, and beliefs. 


     If you want to support connected learning, you may need to change your values, norms, and beliefs. Doing so is known as re-culturing. Re-culturing becomes possible when all stakeholders are involved in learning how to change their culture. 

     Putting relationships first is a very important matter. The first steps to building collaborative cultures is fostering, nurturing, and maintaining positive relationships. A school needs two types of relationships. One is congenial and the other is collegial. Congeniality meaning polite and friendly. Collegiality is a shared belief that basically we are all equal and not one of us is better than the other. These are important terms in a relationship because it allows for others to be equal and have respect for one another. I know that in my future career as a Speech Pathologist, I would want these type of relationships with others in my field, wouldn't you?
