Chapter 6
In Chapter 6 of the Connected Educator, it is stated how important networking is. There are many ways to network with people and the most popular way to do so is through the internet. You can find many people in certain groups that interest you, whether it be a sport or your career. Twitter is one popular social media source for networking. Twitter can be a great way to connect with people who also have a career goal as a Speech Therapist.
The one section of Chapter 6 describes how to use Twitter Lists. You can start this by viewing profiles that match your interest. For example there is an account for teachers under Twitter4Teachers wiki. This site will help you find users that you want to follow as well as gain your own followers. Twitter4Teachers has grown tremendously. It started as a teachers attempt to organize as well as recommend people that were in her own Twitter network. This is great when looking to connect with people from my future career as a Speech Therapist. This is a great way to connect with other Speech Therapists and use some of their ideas and resources.
There are many things to be careful about when it comes to networking. You should look into doing a web background check before following a user. You need to pay attention to their digital footprint, which is also known as their online reputation.
As the internet is a separate world full of different people, we need to filter out the negative to make our online community a safe and effective one. While planning your community the Connected Educator states that "To build for knowledge of practice, as defined in chapter 3, we need to design a community in which members engage in activity and discussions, help one another, and share information". This information is important even with my future career goal because I would not want someone trolling on my online community as we are all connected with positive thoughts and ideas for a Speech Therapist.
This chapter gives a ton of good advice when it comes to networking. It is important to make connections with people from your career field to help you succeed in your career path. The world is updated by using a networking through the internet, There are many great web platforms to use to help you when networking. Twitter is one of the most popular ones that we see.

ReplyDeleteI think you did a great job summarizing the chapter. I like how you connected how twitter lists would be useful to you when connecting with other people in your field. Networking in this day and age is much easier with the use of the internet and all these social media apps. Speaking of social media, I agree it is important to keep in mind who you follow and to pay attention to their digital footprint to make sure you're connecting with the correct people who will help grow your network in a positive way.
