Chapter 2

In Chapter 2 of the Connected Educator they talk about the different types of technologies that are used today and how it has improved in the 21st century. My future profession as a speech pathologist, there will be many updated tools and technology devices that come along the way. I also believe that there will be workshops that teach the speech pathologist new pedagogy from an outside expert and than are expected to take the learning back to their offices to test it out. As a future speech pathologist, I can see where it can be difficult to implement a change when it comes to teaching a student something different than what they are used to. In this chapter it talks about how interactive communications with students, coworkers, students families and such are disconnected from other inputs such as mass media, curriculum documents, and reports. I can see how this would relate to my future as a speech pathologist because the direct interaction with students will be far more different than reports that have to be filled out. It will be more direct when working alongside a student to be able to use visuals and such to help them gain the knowledge they need in order to improve their speech. A connected teacher has a significant amount of resources compared to the typical teacher network. I can see how this would help my future as a speech pathologist by becoming more connected and having a greater amount of resources to improve my work. You not only have the internet and such but you have a connection through professional learning communities, personal learning networks, and communities of practice or inquiry. With having a connected learning community you have your local community which consists of purposeful face to face connections that involve members of a committed group. Second, you have a global network. This includes individually chosen, connections online of diverse people and resources from all over the world. Last you have your bounded community. This includes committed, collective, and often global groups of individuals whos interests overlap and recognize a need for connections that go deeper than the personal learning network. There will always be newer technology along the way. It is important to utilize, as this is what is becoming the new normal. We can relate with it no matter what career path you choose.

  1. Hey Megan, I think you did a good job summarizing and connecting it to your future career. I agreed with you when you said there will always be newer technology along the way and that we have to utilize it. I know for me every day there's always a new device, app, or some kind of new info I am learning whether it’s useful to me or not, I think it is important to know of it.
